1. What tools do you typically use in coaching?

I ask extensive questions; administer assessments and feedback/interpretation, and use checklists, exercises and experimentations. All coaching is customized for each client so there is no hard and fast rule here. I typically look at what a clients tolerating in life and work (what's draining their energy); defining their needs, values and examining their self-care; as well as eliminating time wasters.

2. Can anyone be coach?

Anyone can hang up a shingle that says "Coach." I'm proud to say that I'm a graduate of Coach U, the largest and most recognized coach training program available. I've been coaching since l999 and have coached hundreds of individuals/groups.

3. Am I ready to be coached?

To me this is the most important question you could ask yourself. You have to really want what you say you want. You must be willing to make the time, money, and space for coaching; that this is the right time in your life, and that you are committed to the process (as change doesn't happen overnight). Lastly, that you make a decision to take great care of YOU and are ready to have outstanding results in your career and life.

4. What differentiates coaching from therapy?

Psychotherapy generally deals with emotional or behavioral problems and often deals with the past or current disruptive situations. Therapists generally work with a dysfunction to bring the person to normal function. Therapy is usually done in-person, although at times, it may be done over the phone.

Coaching is for already successful, functional persons who want to move toward higher function and achieve excellence while creating an extraordinary life. Coaching is a process similar to solution focused techniques that therapists use for less serious psycho-emotional problems and life stresses. Coaches are trained to identify therapeutic issues and will make referrals if necessary.

5. How do you help people get results in their lives?

The basis of coaching is support. One plus one equals three, not two. When two people put their minds and energy together and focus on a specific result, new ideas arise that would have not happened as quickly and easily as if only one person was doing the thinking, feeling and processing.

6. Is coaching over the phone as effective as face-to-face?

Yes, it is highly efficient and focused. There are no outside distractions and no time needed to travel. We come to the call prepared to work and respect the allocated time for the session. My coaching materials are within reach in my office, so I am able to immediately locate a resource and/or email material to my clients. Sometimes people are skeptical about this format, but only until they've experienced it.

7. How can I, as the parent, be involved in the coaching process and not violate the confidential relationship you have with my child?

I welcome your perspective and input as to the issues you believe he or she is facing. I ask that you respect the confidential relationship that we have established. I realize that you are paying for the coaching services; yet, it is imperative that we both understand your child is the client. I must be able to establish a trusting and safe space with him or her.
