MAJOR IN SUCCESS

Major in Success is a career and life coaching program
for students - from high school juniors through postgraduates.
Choosing a major and career path - like choosing a college - takes
time and effort. Because of a student's self-doubts, lack of focus,
and fear of making a wrong choice, many list their major as undecided
or declare a major that sounds good based on little or no research
(or a parent’s opinion of what they should study).
Discovery questions and targeted assessments helps students uncover
their natural abilities and talents and learn more about themselves.
At this point in life you’re not expected to decide what
you will do for the rest of your life but rather to begin the
process of career development – a skill that is needed throughout
life.
The Major in Success program provides multiple
benefits:
- Discover best-fit colleges and possible majors
- Explore potential careers
- Improve life, people and job skills
- Develop leadership skills
- Research careers of interest
- Conduct informational interviews
- Get prepared for successful internships or co-ops
- Gain interview skills
Parents and grandparents understand the importance of making wise
career and life decisions. They know that by funding this program,
they are investing in their children’s and grandchildren’s
future. They often remark, ‘I wish I’d had this kind
of information when I was young. I could have saved a lot of time,
money and effort.’
Life Coach Focuses
on Clients Getting Their First Taste of the Real World
The Business Journal, January 27, 2006
The above article by The Business Journal reflected Cindy’s
concentration in the student and young professional market allowing
her to bring this specialty to her coaching practice. Today, she
covers a much broader spectrum of coaching.
The Major in Success program also features personal branding and the development of a Brand-YOU! Profile.™ Starbucks and Target are well-known brands – you have an image of who they are and what to expect when you chose to be a patron. Have you ever considered what your teachers, professors, bosses, co-workers, peers, friends and family think of you when your name is mentioned? Your brand is your operative reputation and impacts your ability to be successful; it either supports or derails your academic and career success.
Your Brand-YOU! Profile™ must demonstrate what employers want you to have. According to 10 Things Employers Want You to Learn in College, author Bill Coplin says you must have mastered the following skill-sets:
- Work Ethic
- Physical Performance
- Speaking
- Writing
- Teamwork
|
- Influencing People
- Research
- Number Crunching
- Critical Thinking
- Problem Solving

How would you rate yourself in these areas? What areas do you need to improve?
“Cindy has made an amazing difference in the lives of many of our client's children. The cost for four years of college education can range from $100,000 to $200,000, yet many students start without a game plan and no idea of what their unique abilities are. Where else in life would you spend this much money with such an uncertain outcome? Tilt the balance strongly in your favor. Spend a portion of your education budget upfront on Cindy's program. It may be the best return on investment you ever receive"

“We have enjoyed our time with you so much! Words cannot describe how much we appreciate your wisdom, direction and time. We are so thankful God led you to Durham so we could find you! We’ve never left your home without talking about how much fun we had – or how we can’t wait to come back again. You truly have inspired us to go for our dreams no matter what they are. We love you!- Peace College and Duke University Women (Pro Bono Coaching)
“Cindy has been a tremendous help in inspiring me
to go beyond my limits and find my passions for a future career. She cares deeply for my generation, helping us harness our power
to live in a more enjoyable and authentic world.”
- Parker McAllister, College Junior
“Cindy's assistance was invaluable in guiding Anna
in the right direction at a very crucial time – her senior
year in high school. Cindy helped Anna focus on what
her real interests were, not what others thought they should be.
Anna was better able to evaluate various career options which,
in turn, guided her choices in selecting the best schools and
courses.
Cindy allowed Anna to dream about her future... to expand her
horizons. For an introvert like Anna, this was vital. She could
direct Anna in ways that as her parents we could not. If you have
teenagers nearing college age, we could not recommend Cindy enough.
To this day, Anna still emails and talks to Cindy and was thrilled
to tell her that she was accepted into the schools that Cindy
suggested. We can honestly say that we would do it all over again
for the huge benefit it was to Anna.”

PROGRAM ASSESSMENTS
Clarifying your innate
abilities, personality preferences, interests, and values through
assessments makes it much easier to evaluate possible major and
career possibilities. These instruments do not pigeon hole or
place you in a box. They provide critical information to help
you get clear on who you are; most students truly appreciate finding
out about themselves and report high assessment accuracy.
The Highlands Ability Battery measures innate
abilities and can only be administered by a certified Highlands
affiliate. Rarely offered in high schools and colleges, the battery
provides parents and young people critical information in planning
for a successful college experience, career, and life.
